Junior Summer Sailing Program 2025 


Four separate sailing weeks are available.  

You can register for one, two, or three weeks. The fourth week is a guppy week, limited to participants under the age of 8. All registrations are considered "applications" until reviewed by the Junior Sailing Program Director. You may be contacted for more information about your child's experience. ALL sailors need to be able to swim and also feel comfortable/confident swimming in a lake.

Week #1 (Learn to Sail Week)

Beginner/Early Intermediate Junior Sailing Week: Tuesday, May 27-Friday, May 30 (4 days) 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM

Optimist Sailboat - Ages 8 -15. 
A limited number of Optimist sailboat charters are available on a first-come-first-served basis if you don't own your own Opti. 

O'Pen Skiff - Ages 8-17. The club does not own any O'Pen Skiffs. Summer Camp participants wishing to sail an O'Pen Skiff would need to bring their own. 

C420 Sailboat - Ages 13-18.
Includes the use of Club-owned sailboats. Max 16 Sailors.

9:00AM - 4:30PM This is an excellent time for “learn to sail” opportunities for beginners and intermediate sailors to improve their skills. Sailors will learn sailboat/wind basics, how to rig/launch boats, and boating safety in a fun atmosphere.

SAILORS BRING: Their own life jacket, sack lunch, refillable water bottle, sunscreen, water shoes, etc. Snacks will be available but sailors may also want to bring their own.  A complete list will be emailed upon registration/payment.

Week #2 (Junior Week)

Junior Week: Monday, June 2 - June 6 (5 days) 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM

This is the main week. There will be an awards dinner Friday after sailing. Price includes dinner for the Junior Sailor and two guests. Additional guests may pay $10 at the venue or online.

1. Beginner Opti - Ages 8 -15. Beginner / Learn to Sail. Similar to Week #1 for the Beginner Opti sailor but they can build on and improve skills previously learned if they attended week 1. Sailors will learn sailboat/wind basics, how to rig/launch boats, on-the-water boat handling skills, and boating safety in a fun atmosphere. A limited number of Optimist sailboat charters are available on a first-come-first-served basis if you don't own your own Opti. 

2. Intermediate/Advanced Opti - Ages 8-15. Helps experienced Opti Sailors improve their skills in rigging their boat and more deeply understand on-the-water boat handling skills, boat speed fundamentals, points of sail, US Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing, and skills for racing. Practice and drills will be conducted in the mornings with racing in the afternoons.  A limited number of Optimist sailboat charters are available on a first-come-first-served basis if you don't own your own Opti. 

3. Intermediate/Advanced Laser - Ages 13-18, minimum sailor weight of 115 lbs. The club has a limited number of Lasers for charter. It is recommended that you bring your own boat or work with Junior Sailing Director to charter a boat (if available). Race-focused curriculum. Practice and drills will be conducted in the mornings with racing in the afternoons. Laser sailors should have at least two prior years of sailing experience in a Laser, Opti, or other one-design dinghy sailboats as the skipper. Must be able to rig, launch, de-rig their boat every day without significant assistance.

4. Intermediate/Advanced C420 - Ages 13-18. Race-focused curriculum. Practice and drills will be conducted in the mornings with racing in the afternoons. Sailors should have at least two prior years of sailing experience in a Laser, Opti, or other one-design dinghy sailboats as the skipper. Must be able to rig, launch, de-rig their boat every day without significant assistance. Sailors will be paired with the same partner all week. Parents are encouraged to choose the sailor's partner prior to registration. Email the Junior/Sailing Director for assistance and possible partnering suggestions.
Includes the use of Club-owned sailboats. Max 16 Sailors.

5. O'Pen Skiff - Ages 8-17. The club does not own any O'Pen Skiffs. Summer Camp participants wishing to sail an O'Pen Skiff would need to bring their own. 

ALL SAILORS BRING: Their own life jackets, refillable water bottle, sunscreen, water shoes, etc. A complete list will be emailed upon registration/payment. Lunches and snacks will be provided.
Total # of Campers is limited to 60.

Week #3 (Adventure Week) Limited spots available.

Adventure Week: Monday, June 9 - Friday, June 13 (5 days) Ages 8 – 18. 9:00 AM - 4:30 PM
This week is offered to encourage youth Sailors to enjoy Lake Lanier and experience the variety of sailboats LLSC offers such as the C420, Opti, Flying Scot, Hobie Wave, etc. Prior sailing experience is required. This week is NOT a session for someone new to sailing for learning to sail. The focus will be safety and fun on the water while sailing to destinations on the Lake. It's time to forget about racing for a few days and go on an adventure on Lake Lanier!

Week #4 (Guppy Week)
Guppy Week: Monday, June 16 - Thursday, June 19 (4 days) 9:00 AM - 1 PM
This Week is offered to provide younger sailors that do not yet meet the age requirements to officially compete in an Opti, the opportunity to learn and sail the boat. It is for children ages 6-7 who are comfortable being in the water and are ready to learn and sail. Curriculum will be focused on the basics of sailing. A limited number of Optimist sailboat charters are available on a first-come-first-served basis if you don't own your own. 

This is a parent driven week. A parent or guardian is expected to be present and participate.

SAILORS BRING: Their own life jacket, sack lunch, refillable water bottle, sunscreen, water shoes, etc. Snacks will be available but sailors may also want to bring their own. A complete list will be emailed upon registration/payment.

Full payment reserves your child's spot.
Payment is due upon registration. No refunds after May 8, 2025.

T-Shirts: T-shirts are available for preorder purchase at registration. We will not have T-shirts available for sale at summer camp.  No T-shirts will be available after May 8. Register before May 8 to make sure your Junior Sailor gets a T-shirt.

Members, if you already acknowledged the Code of Conduct and Waiver it is not necessary to do it again for Camps.
