Lake Lanier Junior Sailing Program mission statement

The principal purpose of the Junior Sailing Program shall be to teach young people the sport of sailing, safety on the water, seamanship skills, sportsmanship, and promote amateur sailboat racing at the club, regional, national, and international levels.

About

LLSC Junior Sailing is a year-round program for youths between the ages of 8 and 17 with an interest in developing racing skills in boats ranging from single-handed dinghies to keelboats. There is also a focus on developing future leaders as the older juniors help coach and mentor beginning sailors.

Younger sailors will start in the Optimist dinghy and then move into Lasers for single-handed racing and the Club 420 for double-handed racing as they get older and develop skills. Junior racers participate in events at LLSC as well as around the Southeast.

Juniors also have the opportunity to compete at the national level in US Sailing junior championship events. The LLSC Junior program relies heavily on volunteers for all aspects of the program including event planning, curriculum development, and coaching (on and off the water). Parents with juniors in the program are expected to contribute.
